Vitomir Struc received his PhD degree in electrical engineering from the University of Ljubljana in 2010. He is currently a Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana Slovenia, where he lectures the following courses on various Bologna levels: Signal Processing, Signal Analysis, Speech and Image Technologies, Seminar on Biometric Systems, Computational Linguistics and Random Signals and Processes. Vitomir’s research centers around artificial intelligence, pattern recognition, deep learning, biometrics, face recognition, emotion recognition, signal processing, machine learning, computer vision and other related areas. He participated in numerous nationally and EU-funded projects as a PI or project group member and published more than 150 papers in reputable peer-reviewed journals and top-tier conferences.

Dr. Štruc serves as a Senior Area Editor (SAE) for IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, and a Subject Editor for Signal Processing and an Associate Editor for Pattern Recognition. He was previously an associate editor for IET Computer Vision, IET Biometrics, and the EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing, a section editor for the IEEE Biometrics Compendium. He also edited two special issues in Image and Vision Computing, one in IET Biometrics and one in the IEEE Transactions on Biometrics, Behavior, and Identity Science. Vitomir served as an Area Chair for WACV 2018, 2019, 2020, ICPR 2018, 2022, Eusipco 2019, FG 2020, 2021, 2023 nad IJCB 2024. He regularly collaborates on organizing committees of international conferences, such as WACV, FG, IJCB, and others. He was one of the main organizers of the B-Wild series of workshops in 2015 and 2017 and of the IEEE International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition 2015 in Ljubljana. In 2020 he was a Program Co-chair for the IEEE/IAPR International Joint Conference on Biometrics IJCB 2020. Vitomir also served as a Program Co-chair for IWBF 2023, FG 2024, WIFS 2024 and a General Co-chair for IJCB 2023. He is currently active as a Program Chair for IEEE WACV 2025, a Tutorial Co-chair for CVPR 2024, and Doctoral Consortium Chair for FG 2025.

Dr. Štruc is an active reviewer for prestigious international journals such as: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security, Pattern Recognition. He is a member of the IEEE, IAPR, Eurasip, the national ambasador for the European Association for Biometrics (EAB) and the former vice-president, former treasurer, former president and current executive committee member of the Slovenian Pattern Recognition Society, the Slovenian branch of IAPR. Since 2022 Vitomir is serving as the VP Technical Activities for the IEEE Biometrics Council. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the EAB, a member of the IEEE Technical Committee on Information Forensics and Security and the secretary and upcoming vice-chair of the IAPR Technical Committee on Biometrics (TC4)
